After learning about the NASDAQ, S P 500, and Dow Jones stock markets, it does not take very long to find the wider variety of stock markets such as Over The Counter (OTC) and Pink Sheet markets. The big companies are listed on the well known exchanges and are always in the news. The smaller upstart companies are listed on the smaller OTC and Pink Sheet markets. These start up companies are called penny stocks because they are often valued at less than a penny per stock share.

Some may say that a penny stock would be anything that is valued at five dollars per share or less. There is no technical way to determine exactly what a penny stock is, but for the fact that most are start up companies with as much or more risk as any possibility of reward. The explosive nature of penny stocks is not for everyone. They can be very volatile and often go out of business but when one of them hits the market with a good idea that receives a large order for product or outright sale of the company itself, a return of 100 to 1,000 or more may be realized by the investor.

The most important thing to understand about penny stocks is that they are too risky to invest a life’s savings. Investments should be made only with money that one can afford to loose. This is much more so with penny stocks than with larger, well established companies. Buying a penny stock called Microsoft in July of 1987 cost .33 cents per share. A 200 investment bought about 600 shares. Selling about 13 years later at the high of 48 in January of 2000, the 600 shares would have been worth 28,800. That is very exciting but rarely happens. Just considering that it could happen at all would make anyone curious.

What you need to know if you are interested in day trading penny stocks would be that there is a significant amount of money to be made if you approach this in the correct manner. When investing with penny stocks, you are getting stocks that have lost value over a period of time, but it is very likely that they will see substantial gains in the future. Since these stocks are not worth much right now, you are risking very little by putting your investment money into them. However, many investors are attracted to these inexpensive stocks because they have a large amount of potential for doubling or multiplying in value within a short window of time. If you put money into a stock that is valued at five dollars, it could turn a year to increase to a value of ten dollars. However, when you have a stock that is valued at a penny, it could multiply in value in just a few days.

This is why day trading penny stocks is so attractive, it can help you to easily multiply your investment without the need to worry about large amounts of risk. If you are just getting started in the market, investing with penny stocks would be the easiest way to learn the basics while you focus on getting a high return for your investment money. The key to getting the most value out of your money would be to avoid paying a broker fee for any transaction that you request, this could limit the amount of profit that you make from these inexpensive stocks. Instead, make sure that you are using a service with a flat fee, this would allow you to buy all of the penny stocks you like without taking away from your profits at all.

Once you know the pros and cons of variable annuities, you would be able to determine if these would be the right choice for your life. The best use of a variable annuity would be to take advantage of the flow of money that this can provide to you while you are retired. When you have no money coming into your account, you would be forced to spend money that may have taken you decades to contribute to a savings account. If you rely on the money in this savings account in order to get by, all of the money will soon run out. Once you no longer have money in your savings accounts, you would have a choice of getting a job or living in poverty. If you would like to live a comfortable life, what you should do is avoid touching the money in your retirement savings until it is an emergency.

The best use of a variable annuity would be to help you find a flow of income that you could use to pay for things you might need. With this approach, you would turn to this financial instrument as a source of money, saving your retirement savings for a rainy day would do you a large amount of good. There are many pros and cons of variable annuities, you should consider both pieces of the pie in order to see if your money would be well places in these financial instruments. In terms of cons, you will find that the returns can be very small at times, this would depend on the specific conditions within the market at any given time. However, there will also be many times when you see very large returns, the positives come with a bit of uncertainty when using these during retirement.

Penny stocks are generally considered those that sell for under four or five dollars for each share, and are most notably not included in the exchange networks like the New York Stock Exchange. These stocks do not meet the minimum requirements for market capitalization, which is just a fancy way of relating the stock value to the stock price, and is not necessarily a negative trait. These types of stocks can be from organizations that are just starting up or growing and expanding, and they are also very commonly representing small businesses that are growing steadily, just not as fast some of the others.

Unfortunately, the very nature of the penny stock market, most notably in the direct dealings between buyers and sellers and lack of regulation, make it a prime target of fraudulent operations and scams. Learning how to buy penny stocks can be a painful process, if not approached in the right manner, and by thoroughly investigating brokers, stocks and companies, most of the common scams and losing propositions can be avoided easily enough. You may have to invest in a hair transplant cost before you learn the ins-and-outs of the market, but the investment in time is well worth it. Just as there are bad investments in the large exchanges, there are also the same within the penny stock networks, and knowing why to buy penny stocks online is just as important as knowing where to buy penny stocks.

Penny stocks can also be ones that have been taken off of the bigger exchanges due to under-performance and even credit issues, as many of these stocks are priced low because of their outlook, not just their current worth. This also makes the investigation of the companies themselves critical when learning how to buy penny stocks, and while there can be fast changes in this market, foregoing the research step is a gamble that is ill-advised in this market, as total losses and worthless stocks are very common.

The beginning stock market speculator, to whom this article addressed, would be wise to spend time becoming familiar with stock charts and stock chart analysis. The stock chart is a valuable “tool” that can help guide the stock market speculator, especially in timing an entry into a stock position or an exit from an existing stock position.

The standard stock chart
A stock chart provides a pictorial representation of the trading activity that has taken place in a specific stock or group of stocks or, in some cases, the entire market, during any chosen period of time in the past up until the present day.

Price and volume changes
In the form of a graph, stock charts customarily show, for the selected time period, the price and volume changes of the stock under consideration, together with other supplementary relevant data, that enables the informed viewer to analyse and interpret the information portrayed — with the objective of using it to help predict the possible future movements that can occur as the stock continues to trade in the marketplace.

Stock prices fluctuate in response to supply and demand pressures and those in turn are affected by many other events and occurrences, often unforeseen, that can happen at any time and as news of them reaches the market place, sometimes with positive effect and sometimes not.

Sometimes stock prices follow a recognizable pattern
Price and volume changes are usually easy to discern on a stock chart and many times can be seen emerging in a recognizable pattern, a pattern that has occurred quite often at other times in the past and with other stocks and market activities.

And sometimes they don’t
The ability to recognize such patterns as they begin to occur is the basis of predicting the future path the stock will take. There is no certainty, no mathematical or scientific basis on which to depend, and many wrong decisions are made because the anticipated pattern does not materialize.

However, there are many chart indicators that have been shown to be fairly reliable and traders definitely heed their warnings. Common among those graphic indicators are that show price areas of resistance or support and where many traders will await a breakout from the confinements of those before making a commitment to enter or exit a position — making that a somewhat fulfilling prophesy — but if it works it works. Any one such indicator may not be sufficient to warrant a commitment but other factors that are usually shown on stock graphs can further influence decisions. Those include such things as a changes in trading volume, high or low volume, overbought or oversold conditions, those, together an understand of how external factors can influence stock price fluctuations, all can come into play when assessing the merits of staying in stock position or making a new stock trade.

For more on charts, check out: About Stock Charts and for more on a wider range of introductory trading activities please see: Stock Market Basics Guide.

In conclusion
Stock charts can help decision making and every trader welcomes a positive contribution to guide their decisions, give them an “edge” if possible and help them avoid mistakes that diminish their trading capital.

Experience teaches us that losses are inevitable in stock speculation. Many traders establish a series of basic guidelines to follow that are known to help manage risk to avoid large losses and to capture maximum gains when they exist. The signals on a stock chart that can be identified as warning signs can help alert the trader to the possibility, or even likelihood, that a guideline may be closer to being breached.

The stock chart is a valuable reference for may traders and some will not trade without access to stock charts.

Needless to say, Africa is well known for its vast natural and mineral reserves that coveted the attention of several economy behemoths around the world. Mostly the interest is in its petroleum and mineral resources. Africa investment is not primarily geared towards agriculture as it even just accounts approximately 3% of South Africa’s gross domestic product. Considering South Africa is already the riches nation in the whole African continent, their agriculture has lagged behind in terms of exports. However, several foreign investors are optimistic to invest in Africa as further economic development rapidly expands.

Although some African nations are plagued with famine and turmoil, several other regions have been successfully exporting citrus, paper products, sugarcane, tobacco, corn, dairy products, wool, and wheat. The major trading partners that who invest in Africa are UK, China, India, US, Netherlands, Switzerland, and Malaysia. Africa investment in agriculture has been one of the emerging sectors that foreign investors are looking into. Their land is rich with fertile soil, water, and abundant sunshine. The Nelspruit district in South Africa is even the second world’s largest citrus fruit producer. On the other hand, Mpumalanga’s area is clustered with several forest, vegetations and plantations as it is nearest to the largest body of freshwater.

Thus, there is no problem with farming at all, however, the only challenge that Africa is facing with regard to agriculture is that 40% of the produce doesn’t get to the market. Many countries who invest in Africa have trouble increasing their orders due to some fairly fixable issues. The lack of storage facilities, farm roads and the high cost of transportation are the major factors that hinder the growth of agriculture in this continent.

A lot of foreign organizations who invest in Africa have been encouraging the nations in this continent to build better infrastructures, roads, telecommunication, and information and technology projects. Nevertheless, Africa has 53 countries to boast which offers abundant and huge supply of different mineral, agricultural products, and petroleum. It goes to say that Africa investment can never go to waste as investors have a myriad of industries to choose from. One African country may have its own downsides, yet another African nation can still meet the demands of the global market.

The UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) projected that Africa has a high potential for profitability growth more specifically with its rich and huge deposits of chromium, diamonds, platinum, uranium, cobalt, and other high-valued gems. It is notable to mention that South Africa is also known to have half of the world’s gold reserves. More than anything else, North Africa contains the largest petroleum reserves. North Africa is composed of Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, and Western Sahara. In West Africa, the area is loaded with iron reserves, petroleum reserves, and aluminum. This is why investment Africa is the main goal for many behemoth industries at present.

It is no wonder that China and India have already revived its interest as Africa investors since it is expected that rewards are to exponentially grow. Moreover, several reliable projections expect the African economic boom to double. Nevertheless, the growth in investment Africa has tapped the services and manufacturing areas as observed in the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) reports. In 2009, China invested around $600 million in the fisheries to paper industries in the countries of Ghana, Namibia, Mozambique, and Kenya.

Africa had been devastatingly misrepresented by the international media and had suffered an impression of a land havocked with several political disputes. However, this is an overblown negative impression of the continent and that an Africa investor should expect this place to be a treasure trove of many sorts. Although, the continent is still undeniably plagued by political instability, poor infrastructures, corruption, weak health benefits system, and poverty.

In the end, it will prove to be a challenge to Africa’s union of leaders on how they can work together in their increased effort to attract investment Africa. The group of nations has to prove to Africa investors that they can diminish money laundering, tax evasion, and other illegal financial schemes plaguing it. Perhaps in the next few months, this increased investment and clamor over this vast continent will most probably define a new environment for Africa’s IT industry as well as the development of its infrastructure. We may just have to wait for things to come just like what we are currently seeing with China today.

An uncontrolled money supply may cause hyperinflation or disastrous depression and thereby cancel its blessings. If price inflation gets out of hand, for example, money ceases to be a reliable store of value and therefore becomes a less efficient medium of exchange. People become reluctant to accept cash and payment for goods and services when they do accept it, they try to get rid of it as soon as possible.

The value for money is determined by the price level of the goods and services money is used to purchase. The higher the prices, the more dollars one has to give up to get real goods or buy services. Inflation, rising prices, reduces the value of money. Hyperinflation, prices rising at a fast and uncontrollable speed, reduces the value of money by lot within a short time span. As a result, people don’t want to hold very much cash; they want to exchange it for goods or services as quickly as possible. Thus, if money breaks down as a store of value, it starts to deteriorate as a medium of exchange as well and we start slip back into a barter system. People spend more time exchanging goods and less time producing, consuming and enjoying them. A severe depression causes different but no less serious consequences.

So once we have money, the question constantly challenges us: how much of it, should there be? Many people persist in thinking that money must somehow be based on gold, or maybe silver, or at least on something that has a tangible physical substance. Money is mostly an accounting phenomenon, reinforced by social convention and the legal power of government. There simply isn’t any backing behind our currency and checking accounts, which could constitute most of our money, are nothing more than liabilities on the books of financial institutions.

In the United States, there is growing concern about the state of the economy and how the country will pay its debts, especially as the population ages and promised benefits become due for millions of retirees. The U.S. dollar, long the reserve currency for worldwide finance, is losing its position as the standard go-to currency for central banks as they move toward emergent currencies such as the Chinese yuan and Russian ruble. For people planning their retirement, or simply attempting to save for a rainy day, investing in the stock market has proven to be a losing proposition. The value of the stock market is based on one thing-how market participants feel at any given time. If they are optimistic, the market responds positively. If they are pessimistic, the market drops. Investors have no control over how people are feeling, and have lost fortunes on the whims of market makers. There is only one sure way to protect yourself against the unpredictable tide of market sentiment-investing in commodities that store value regardless of market swings.

Investing in silver is a great way to protect your hard earned money from volatile markets. While many people turn to gold as an investment during economic uncertainty, silver is currently poised to outperform gold for several reasons. Silver is underpriced right now. Under normal economic conditions, it takes approximately 17 ounces of silver to buy one ounce of gold. As of the writing of this article, it takes 41 ounces of silver to buy one ounce of gold. Silver reserves (actual stockpiles of silver) are at unprecedented lows, while demand for silver in manufacturing is skyrocketing. Silver is one of the best ways to save money during troubling economic times.

For many people, investing in something other than the stock market is unheard of. Even if you have never invested in silver before, you should consider it as a portion of your portfolio for the future.

The financial world is so full of confusion and complication that is often becomes confusing for investors to find their way around and make decisions as to what is the best for them. No matter what your needs and individual circumstances there will be products around to help you invest your capital for profit. The trick is getting as much information as possible about your investment options and then making an informed decision.

An important thing to remember is that following the advice of financial or investment advisers will not always be the best option for you. The advice you get may not be given for your own best interests, but out of a desire for the adviser to profit themselves. That is because advisers are mostly paid through bonuses and commissions based on the products they sell – therefore the product they sell you may not necessarily be the best for you, but be the best paying for them.

The most important aspect of investment products is that they all have their benefits and disadvantages – and one size definately does not fit all. That’s why you should arm yourself with information to make the best decision. For example penny stocks are a great way to invest on the stock market, but they may not be for everyone – it depends what you want from your money. If you are after an investment method which offers the potential for great returns in a short period of time, then you should research penny stock brokers and open an account with one.

If however you are after a product which offers lower risk – then you will be better off looking at annuities pros and cons. That’s because annuities offer tax free incentives and a sense of certainty for your money. Note that I said ‘sense’ – as no investment product will definately return a profit. All you can do is research your investment options, make a decision as to your acceptable level of risk, and jump in.
